Bio

熔 means "Melt" in Chinese. It is composed by two parts: 火 and 容. 火 means fire, but it also looks like a person dancing; 容 has two meanings: contain and appearance. An experimental-narrative animation inspired by the myth of sword casting, recorded in Chinese historical novel Wu Yue Chun Qiu (吴越春秋). From one of the versions of the myth we were told that Mo Ye (莫邪), the wife of the famous sword caster Gan Jiang (干将), threw herself into the furnace to melt the iron to make a great sword for the king. I was touched and struck by the story, so I decided to make an animation. My idea of focusing on storytelling through the emotional part of the character before her death leads me into experimenting dance and charcoal rotorscoping. This piece is made to evoke feelings more than telling the detailed story. Both animation and sound are made and put together by me.Made in December 2017 at VCUarts.
